This is one of the few documentaries on the Hittites that I’ve seen. It’s a pretty good primer for those who know little about these once powerful people from the Anatolian highlands.
While the narration and special effects might make you believe that this film is from the 1970s, it was actually released in 2003. It’s narrated by Academy Award Winner Jeremy Irons and has many interviews with experts in the field. It covers pretty much all of the main points in Hittite history in just under two hours. One of the best parts is when they do a reenactment of the famous Battle of Kadesh between the Hittites armies the Egyptians under Pharaoh Rameses II.
It’s definitely worth the watch.
