The new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out. Here are some thoughts on what will no doubt be one of the best movies of the year.
I just finished watching the new trailer for the Last Jedi trailer for the sixth time and honestly it was worth the wait. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it before proceeding further.
It’s the first trailer that we’ve received from LucasFilm in the last six months. Looks like the wait was worth it because it definitely doesn’t disappoint. The film definitely is going to be much darker than the last one. Special effects wise it’s amazing. The new battle sequences on Crait, in space, in that cavern with those three tie fighters chasing the Millennium Falcon and the duel between Finn and Captain Phasma. Honestly, the clips were nothing short of spectacular.
The trailer also seems to have ignited some new questions and spawned some new theories, at least in my mind. For example we hear Snoke talking in the beginning presumably to Kylo Ren about being someone special. I have a feeling though he could be talking to Rey. After all, we do see a scene where he seems to be torturing her, so we know that they at least meet somewhere in the film. I also have a feeling that it’ll be either Kylo Ren or Luke Skywalker who will ultimately rescue her.
It seems though that Luke will refuse to train her and perhaps even abandon her because he can sense her power he’s terrified by it. He knows what happened when he tried to train Ben Solo, a.k.a. Kylo Ren. That obviously didn’t turn our so good.
I also think that it might have also been Snoke who abandoned Rey on Jakku. Either that or at least he knew of her existence on the planet. There is probably some link with the relatively recent Star Wars: Aftermath trilogy of novels, especially the last one. That’s something though we can discuss at another time,
It was also bittersweet to see Carrie Fisher a.k.a. Princess Leia, aboard a ship that Kylo Ren seems ready to destroy. It’s like she could almost sense his presence and knew that her end is coming. I’m sure that fan (and myself) will tear up when we see her on the silver screen one last time in December.
It’s going to be a long two months until December 15th.
