Meet Julia, the first Sesame Street muppet with autism

It’s Sesame Street at the forefront of children’s television yet again.

Last month, everyone’s favorite children’s educational show announced that they’d be introducing a new character to their muppet mix, Julia. At first glance she looks quite ordinary, except that she isn’t. You see, Julia is the first Sesame Street character who in the show has autism.

In her debut, which aired this past week, Julia meets Big Bird, Elmo and the gang while finger painting. They discuss many of the things that make her unique. It’s a pretty heartwarming clip and it’s great that Sesame Street is doing what they can to bring about autuism awareness.

The segment below gives some background about the creation of Julia.
